Enemies Within is an investigative project published by The Intercept, examining the widespread use of sexual violence by Russian forces in occupied Ukrainian territories — and the complicity of local collaborators who enable and conceal these crimes.
Through the testimonies of survivors and witnesses, the work exposes how sexual assault is used as a weapon of war: to intimidate, humiliate, and destabilize Ukrainian communities. It also questions the limits of justice — whether Ukraine and international institutions possess the means to hold perpetrators accountable.
Far from isolated incidents, the investigation reveals sexual violence as part of a systematic campaign of repression. Combining text and photography, Enemies Within stands as both documentation and denunciation — a record of violence and resistance.
